Who’s behind the project?
Hi, I'm Duncan Carson and I’ve been working in the world of cinema for over a decade.
<img width="507" height="354" width_o="507" height_o="354" src_o="https://cortex.persona.co/t/original/i/38c8df784b476d491cdbc17544c91aa65120a4dbbd5e982bdd98f43ab91bd4ef/7b9c68c0-d3ff-4ea9-9cce-752874cd9bb9.JPG" data-mid="1350767" border="0" />I set up Waltham Forest Cinema Project CIC in 2026.

My day job is at the Independent Cinema Office, a national charity developing cinemas and audiences for a wider range of films.&nbsp;
I have helped cinemas start up and thrive. My work has helped me understand what a difference a cinema makes to a community, and how to make a success of new cinemas. I want to take that knowledge and make a cinema Waltham Forest can be really proud of.

I grew up in a rural community without access to a local cinema, so I know what a difference it can make to have great films and a cinema community within a stone’s throw of your house.
You can read more about me and my work here.
I am keen to find new collaborators for the project, so click here to see how you can join me in this work.

Keep an eye out for venues
The cinema is looking for a permanent home. It's very likely to be an existing building, so if you know about any developments or unused space that could be home to a cinema screen or a pop up venue, get in touch.

Our vision for a new kind of cinema
We think the cinema of the future will look different to what’s come before.
That's why we're keen to shape it together.

Our goal is for the cinema to become something you’re proud to have in your area. We'd like it to be a great place to meet people and spend time, even if you're not planning to catch a film. The cinema in a nutshellWe plan to create a two or three screen cinema, along with a café/bar and community events space.

You’ll get to experience the best of new cinema as well as old favourites, all with great sound, comfortable seating and high-quality projection.

It means you can have a great night out under fifteen minutes' walk from your front door.

The purpose of the cinemaThere are obvious things the cinema will do – like sell tickets and popcorn, show films, be a great night out – but you can help shape it, too. What would you like from your cinema?

We want to build a shared vision with you, based on the idea of community. We want the cinema to be...

| Open |&nbsp;
A space where everyone feels welcome and can take part beyond being an audience member. A space where people can make real connections in their community.
| Affordable |
A space that gives people something valuable, without barriers to who can take part.

| Stimulating |
Cinema can show you the best of all artforms, take you anywhere in the world and be a gateway to all kinds of different ideas. We want to create a space that's about more than just watching, it’s about discussing, connecting and creating. How to get involved
